"Delusions of Grandeur"

Alex Henize: May 13, 2007

“The Oro Valley government has delusions of grandeur. They are taking on projects that they want, not what the people want.  I am only one “people”. I prefer smaller, more responsive government. That means less committees; more decision-makers and clear guidelines for action. I have seen [Oro Valley Town] staff, the ones closest to a problem, make recommendations which are then ignored up the line by people who usually don't have a clue. We, as a community, must look awfully stupid after the way Vestar played us.  Let’s not have it happen again.

We [Oro Valley] are currently looking at some projects which we don,t need and can't afford.

[For example]The new town campus! If we fire one-third of government we don't need the space; at least not yet. When I was in industry we always manned lower than our needs. If business was up we worked overtime, You know: Lots of evenings and weekends, the pay was great. If things slowed we went back to our normal 40 hours. And if I'm wrong on the space needs we have lots of empty retail space, Albertsons & Osco, that I'm sure could be rented until this town is built out. Then we can take a look at our on going needs.

[A Second Example] The new town park.We can't afford it. We just don’t have the population yet. So set the land aside and wait.

I'm still miffed about the Vestar deal.  They [Oro Valley Politicos] were had; they were incredibly stupid or incredibly dishonest. Even in the notorious town of Chicago the people would be demanding an investigation. I suspect criminal misdeeds or at the least malfeasance and dereliction of duty.
These folks, our elected officials, do not have the best interests of the people they serve as their main purpose.
